October is Canadian Library Month. The Collingwood Public Library was established in 1856 serving the community from a location at the corner of Ontario and Ste. Marie Streets. Years later, The Collingwood Carnegie Library opened at the corner of Maple and Second Streets in 1904. The library also was home to the Collingwood Museum in the lower level. Fire destroyed this magnificent building in 1963. If you grew up in Collingwood, you will remember this as being a very sad day. A new library building was constructed at the same location serving the community until 2010 when our new downtown library and municipal building opened its doors in April at the corner of Ste. Marie and Simcoe Streets.
